ANAHEIM - Ryan Carter's first day of practice in more than a month was entirely up to him. The Ducks' recuperating center could have sat out the first hour or so of drills, then jumped in with his teammates at the end for some vigorous laps around the ice.
Instead, Carter was passing and firing with his backhand, his forehand, and generally showing off a brand-new wrist that hadn't looked so good since it was fractured Feb. 20 against Colorado.
"I'm kind of day-to-day in what I can take, but (the wrist) felt good shooting and passing," Carter said. "Shooting and passing drills, I felt like I can do. I don't know if I'm ready to take contact with it yet, but that will come."
In some respects, it can't come soon enough for the offensively starved Ducks
