MILWAUKEE - Dodgers third baseman Nomar Garciaparra isn't ready to begin a minor-league rehabilitation assignment, a determination that was made after he ran in the outfield and took part in early batting practice before Tuesday night's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Garciaparra accompanied the team on what is essentially a one-city trip in hopes he could leave from here and go directly to one of the Dodgers' minor-league affiliates to begin a rehab. But it now looks like he will return with the club to Los Angeles after Thursday's afternoon game.
"I felt like I could push it more, so that was good," Garciaparra said. "I was able to run harder. But at the same time, I couldn't do as much as I wanted to do. There was some tightness and some soreness there, so I had to back off. I did push it to the (limit), but I still need some time. There is no need to go backward
