A cloudy sky was only a small reason why it was so dreary at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday.
In a rare weekday afternoon start, the Dodgers appeared to still have sleep in their eyes as they were clobbered 12-1 by the New York Mets. And the game didn't even seem to be as close as the lopsided score would indicate.
Nothing went right for Dodgers starter Brad Penny, who gave up a career high 10 runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings against a team that has given him nothing but trouble in the past. Penny now has a bloated 6.21 ERA against the Mets, his highest against any National League team.
Penny struggled to find the strike zone at times, couldn't finish off innings and if that wasn't enough, he didn't have any luck either.
"Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong today," Penny said with an exasperated chuckle. "All those (fifth-inning) runs that were scored with two outs, I should be able to finish off that inning. Today, I didn't give the team a chance
