A mound of trouble - Villalobos a force for El Rancho

PICO RIVERA - While his teammates began their daily workout on an overcast Monday, El Rancho High School pitcher Chris Villalobos stood on the sideline being interviewed.

He already has back-to-back Del Rio League championships and the school record for career victories on his resume.

He said he'd really like to add a CIF championship to his list of accomplishments.

He figures to be on the mound when the Dons begin their quest Thursday for the CIF-Southern Section Division III title against either Downey or Harvard/Westlake.

Villalobos, a 17-year-old right-hander, is the logical choice for coach Frank Llanes, who said, "We are very confident when he takes the hill. He brings stability to our program."

Villalobos, who has won 20 games in two years, is 11-1 this season. He has 97 strikeouts and an impressive 1.17 earned run average in 77.1 innings. He needs six strikeouts to tie current St   Read Full Article...
