Soft-serve has a chilling effect

ON THE DASHBOARD: Baskin Robbins' vanilla soft serve. Note: While typically thought of as mushier ice cream, soft serve is technically not ice cream. True story. Look it up on Wikipedia.



THE SPECS: Cold vanilla swirls heaped on top of each other in a cup or cone. The regular-size portion is supposedly 6 ounces, but the actual size may vary.



DOES IT DELIVER: I'm a firm believer in ice cream-like substances. On a hot day, they can do no wrong. Even on cold (read: 60 degrees) days, they are still an effective way to self-medicate against misery.

Still, for those who like their frozen treats creamy, Baskin Robbins may disappoint; it's a little icy in texture.

The flavor is good - no weird aftertaste - and it's lighter than those gooey glumps you serve yourself at bargain buffets but can never properly coil.
