U.S. dollar weaker than other major European money

The U.S. dollar was lower against other major currencies in European trading Friday. Gold rose in London. The euro traded at $1.5586, up from $1.5454 late Thursday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.5583. Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Thursday, included 103.88 Japanese yen, down from 105.26; 1.0450 Swiss francs, down from 1.0565; 0.9961 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0009. The British pound was quoted at $1.9586 up from $1.9451. In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 103.81 yen and 1.0452 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.9573. Gold traded in London at $904.00 per troy ounce, up from $886.70 late Thursday.
