ANAHEIM - Angels reliever Justin Speier and pitching coach Mike Butcher had some difficult issues to tackle the past couple of days.
"We were working on whether I should be parting my hair in the middle or go with the curly look," Speier joked of the extra time he and Butcher spent in the bullpen Monday and Tuesday.
The focus of Speier's pregame work in the bullpen was not his hair but his recent hair-raising performances. Speier has given up six runs on nine hits (including three home runs) in just 2MD+,%30,%55,%702/MD-,%0,%55,%703 innings over his past four outings, including two losses in the three-game sweep in Tampa Bay over the weekend.
He was unavailable Monday night after all the pregame throwing in the bullpen.
"A little of this, a little of that," Speier said of the extra work. "Just working on locating my pitches, throwing them where I want. Some delivery stuff.
