ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - There's white noise ... and White Sox noise.
Playing for the White Sox under manager Ozzie Guillen the past four years, Angels right-hander Jon Garland said he learned to tune out the kind of profane tirades and bleep-filled rants that put Guillen in the spotlight again last week.
"I'm not surprised by it," Garland said. "He goes off on something every year. He knows what he's doing. He feeds it."
Last week, Guillen went off on the White Sox's second-class status in Chicago where the Cubs are the cuddly favorites - and tossed in a bonus rant on America's obsession with celebrities like Britney Spears.
"For me as a pitcher, it was easy to just tune it out," said Garland, who won 58 games in four seasons for Guillen. "I didn't deal with him. I worked with Coop (White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper). I knew what was going on.
