Angels' bats hit freezing point - L.A. shut out for second consecutive night

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After Saturday's game at Tropicana Field, fans were invited to make themselves comfortable on the outfield faux-grass and watch the movie "Ice Age" on the scoreboard video screen.

Despite the title, the movie did not star Angels hitters. They have sunk into a deep freeze, though, as the Angels were shut out for the second consecutive night, 2-0, by the Tampa Bay Rays.

The consecutive shutouts are the first against the Angels since the Texas Rangers did it to them Sept. 18-19, 2004.

In this case, the Angels have managed a total of only four hits in the 18 scoreless innings (one Friday, three Saturday).

"When you go 18 innings without a run, it's going to be tough to get a win," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "We're not getting enough chances. ... If you're waiting for a break to win a game, you're not playing well. I think that's kind of where we are. We really only pressured them in one inning."
