ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Erick Aybar healed faster than the Angels expected. Chone Figgins hasn't.
So after Saturday's game, the Angels made Figgins their eighth player to visit the disabled list already this season and called up Kendry Morales from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Figgins has not played since last weekend when he suffered a mild strain of his right hamstring.
"He (Figgins) is making progress but not enough that you're projecting him to play this week," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "You want to take the pressure away for him to grind every day, trying to get back out there, and just let it heal."
Morales represents something the Angels have very few of - a hot hitter. He has a .297 average, five home runs and 31 RBIs in 30 games at Salt Lake, but that includes a .342 average (13 for 38), three home runs and 11 RBIs in nine games this month.
Aybar, meanwhile, was back in the lineup Saturday after being hit in the left hand by a pitch in Friday's game
