Every gameday, Vladimir Guerrero walks into the Angels' clubhouse, home or road, and changes into a blue T-shirt with a big Superman logo on the front.
Many days, he then goes out on the field and performs like a superhero.
But so far this season, Guerrero has hit more like Clark Kent than the Man of Steel.
Going into this weekend's series against the Tampa Bay Rays, Guerrero is hitting .266 with an earth-bound .422 slugging percentage, three home runs and 15 RBIs.
At this same point in his first four seasons with the Angels, Guerrero has never been hitting lower than .306 (2005) or slugging lower than .518 (2006). He has had at least seven home runs in the first 36 games of those seasons with fewer than 25 RBIs only once - 22 in 2005.
"Sometimes you start good. Sometimes you start bad," Guerrero said through an interpreter this week. "I'm just in a slump.
