When Brett Sports announced nearly a year ago that it was purchasing the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, it was followed with the announcement that the other team it owns in the league, the High Desert Mavericks, was up for sale.
Minor League Baseball and California League rules stipulate that one owner or ownership group cannot own two teams in the same league.
But at the time, that was not a huge concern, because the Bretts didn't own the Quakes yet.
Even when the Bretts officially took over control of the team last August, it was not of special concern, since the Bretts were granted a waiver allowing them six months to sell the Mavericks.
That six months is officially up today, but there is no word yet whether there will be another waiver granted.
"We've asked for another waiver," Quakes and Mavericks President Brent Miles said on Friday. "But we haven't heard back yet from Minor League Baseball
