Wildcats crown eight league champions

RIALTO - To the untrained eye, Redlands East Valley's performance at Saturday's Citrus Belt League wrestling finals at Rialto High School would be considered impressive.

But not as much to coach Anthony Loera.

"Our goal at the beginning of the season was to win CIF," Loera said. "And it we didn't get 12 through (to CIF) today, it would've been a letdown. We did our job."

Redlands East Valley not only had 12 CIF qualifiers but also had eight champions. Yucaipa qualified 11, with one champion. Carter (two champions) was the only school other than REV to have more than one champion. Rialto, Miller, and Redlands had one champion apiece.

The top four in each weight class advanced to the CIF-SS Southern Division Championships Feb. 19 at Temecula Chaparral. Fifth-place serves as an alternate.

"The (REV) guys who won, I expected them to," Loera said.
