CARSON - The optimism of the opening of camp.
As a stiff, cold wind swept across the practice field at Home Depot Center on Tuesday, Chivas USA's top draft pick Blair Gavin talked about the "warmer, nicer" days.
Second-year player Jesus Padilla revealed he wants to become a Chivas icon.
Yet there's always a veteran to add some perspective.
"Everybody was excited to be out here and we've just got to kind of remind guys that right now, we need to work on concentrating more than anything," defender Carey Talley said. "Everybody's going to have energy, but the main thing to do is to come out and concentrate and make sure you're doing the right things."
A tricky transition season faces Chivas, which has reached the MLS playoffs the past four seasons but now must replace key elements of that run with a new coach, Martin Vasquez.
The captain, midfielder Jesse Marsch, has stepped out of the way and will likely find a spot coaching with the U.S. national team
