In Pomona, Mayor Norma Torres led her (sniff) last meeting Monday, before leaving for her last shift as a Los Angeles Police Department dispatcher, lasting from 10 p.m. to (yawn) 6:30 a.m.
She was back at City Hall on Tuesday morning to continue cleaning out her office.
I don't know how she did it all these years. Also, with that schedule, I'm not sure which post qualified as her day job.
Also, I'm wondering if her LAPD colleagues gave her a cake at, say, 4 a.m.
But back to Monday's meeting. Torres was presented a Goddess award, an Oscar-like statuette of the Goddess of Pomona given for service to the city. Elected in 2000 to the City Council, and in 2006 to the vacant mayor's seat, Torres, a Democrat, will advance to the state Assembly on Dec. 1. She'll be its first Guatemalan-born member.
