Ontario council meetings brief despite regular's 3 minutes' worth

Tuesday's Ontario City Council meeting was, at 14 minutes, one of the briefest of recent years.

It would have been three minutes shorter if not for Sylvester Brooks, the dapper octogenarian who once more took his turn at the lectern during public comment.

"It's good to have you back, Mr. Brooks," Mayor Paul Leon said. "But that doesn't mean your time has piled up. You still get only three minutes."

Brooks complained about a trailer left in his neighborhood for weeks, undisturbed.

"Please! Move it!" Brooks barked.

He had a second issue. "Our meetings are getting too short," he told council members. "But I've found a way to make them longer. We'll pay you by the hour."

As everyone laughed, Brooks added: "The meetings are so short, I can't even get my second free cup of coffee and cookies!"

(Ontario's cookies, by the way, are delicious.)
