I have no idea what Titusville, Pa., looks like now or 150 years ago, but I'm pretty sure it's never really looked much like Chino.
But that really doesn't matter when you have the magic of the motion picture camera.
One April day in 1937 on the Ashcraft Ranch, about seven miles southwest of Ontario, a Paramount Pictures crew assembled to film, "High, Wide and Handsome."
The ranch was playing the role of 1859 Titusville at the time the first U.S. oil well was drilled there.
According to the script, a key scene had the townfolk using a herd of circus elephants to block an attempt by a railroad tycoon to take over some of the town's land.
During the filming, on April 21, things went terribly wrong during a chase scene involving three circus wagons.
