I am asking people who have been helped by Assemblywoman Nell Soto in any way to call Pomona City Hall at 909-620-2311 and ask the mayor and City Council to change Hamilton Park to Nell Soto Park.
We have been gathering signatures in front of Pomona City Hall for about a year now to change the name to recognize her achievements and her years of service to her community.
As a native daughter of Pomona, she should be recognized for her climb to the California Assembly at a time when it was not favorable for a Hispanic woman to move up the political ladder.
She sat on the Pomona City council for 12 years (how quickly we forget). With her election to the state Senate in 2000, she became the first female senator elected to represent the Inland Empire. She was the mother of six, grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother to three. Her late husband, Phillip Soto, served two terms in the state Legislature from 1962-1966
