Nuggets deal Kobe, Lakers more pain

BA L.A. superstar suits up despite bad ankle, but it's not enough as defending champs fall to Denver.

One superstar declined to be sidelined by a sprained left ankle Friday night.

Another decided to sit it out.

The Lakers' Kobe Bryant pulled on his purple-and-gold uniform for the 235th consecutive game, doing all he could to play through the pain and soreness stemming from a week-old sprain. He wore a high white sock over a heavy tape job.

Denver's Carmelo Anthony sat out for the seventh consecutive game, his sprained left ankle too painful and sore to allow him to play in the Nuggets' 126-113 victory over the Lakers at in front of 18,997 at Staples Center.

In the end, it didn't seem to matter Bryant played and Anthony did not.

Others turned the game in Denver's favor.
