That aura around Staples Center on Saturday could only be generated by the visit of LeBron James.
Or was it?
Karma, ghosts, apparitions and more joined in the act in a strange prelude to the Clippers' game against Cleveland.
Then came the lead that went poof into the night.
Delonte West's tip-in with 2:50 left gave Cleveland its first lead of the second half and Baron Davis' 21-foot jump shot at the buzzer hit nothing but air as the Cavaliers scored a 102-101 victory in front of a sellout crowd of 19,277.
With Clippers bodies vanishing one after another, they got a career high-matching 33 points from Rasual Butler and 28 more from Eric Gordon (29 is his season high) but couldn't hold off a furious comeback.
James scored 23 of his 32 points in the second half for Cleveland.
Mo Williams added 18 points and West had 14 for the Cavaliers (31-11).
Forward Craig Smith played through a scary fall to add 16 points for the Clippers (17-22), who missed their final three shots
