Veterans and heroes honored at Chino school

t Margaret Mary Catholic School in Chino held its eighth annual Veterans and Heroes Day prayer service for a number of military veterans last Friday.

The event, sponsored by the school's eighth grade class, honored all past and present members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, police, firefighters and ambulance personnel.

Among those honored was Chino resident Chuck Wilder, a former Navy radarman who attends annually.

"I would say it's probably unusual for schools to be able to conduct events like this because a lot of schools tend not to mention anything about wars. And I would say it's important for the children to be able to relate to American history, what we stand for today and why we are the strongest nation in the world," said Wilder, who hosts a talk show on the CRN radio network.

"It sort of brings to the surface many of the things we don't see all year living in America."
