DANA POINT - Agent Scott Boras said he expects "the marketplace for Mark Teixeira is going to be very aggressive."
For Boras, "aggressive" means he expects a "volume of teams would absolutely be interested in" the free agent first baseman who he pegged as "a franchise player" of the same status as Manny Ramirez. Not coincidentally, Ramirez also is a Boras client and free agent this offseason.
"I think he fits all dimensions for a number of teams," Boras said Tuesday of Teixeira at the St. Regis Resort where baseball GMs are holding meetings this week, a precursor to the winter meetings next month.
Boras is spending his days at the resort meeting with teams regarding a number of his clients - Teixeira, Ramirez, Derek Lowe, Jason Varitek and Ivan Rodriguez foremost among them. Unlike those players, though, Teixeira, 28, is in the prime of his career. Boras is expected to seek a contract of at least six years with annual salaries in the $18 million to $20 million range
