MEDIA: In D-Fense of Burnett's D-League gig

In defense of Larry Burnett, it takes a special person to do play-by-play on a D-Fenders game.

Start with a strong imagination.

Staples Center is even more empty than a Clippers-Nets contest. You get an engineer to flip the switch, and a monitor on the table with updated stats. The rest is up to your imagination, as the voice of public announcer Lawrence Tanter reverberates through the building like the voice of God.

It's no time for Showtime.

"Really, it's like doing a game in a vacuum," Burnett admits with a laugh.

The Lakers-owned NBA Development League team, which in the past has had Jordan Farmar, Coby Karl and Sun Yue fill roster spots, play a 50-game schedule between November and April, parallel to the Lakers' 82-game regular-season slate.
