A funny thing happened to Kevin Carlson while walking on the beach on Friday. Carlson loves to beachcomb around Imperial Beach and has found some interesting things over the years, including lobsters in lobster traps and other oddities from the sea.
But this was different. In fact, in 20 years of beachcombing, Carlson had never seen anything like it.
Carlson looked out and saw at least a dozen 35- to 50-pound bluefin tuna.
Some were dead while others struggled to get out of the shallow surf. So Carlson waded out and plucked some tuna from the sea.
The following day, the same phenomenon occurred.
Prowler owner-operator Buzz Brizendine said his diving buddy picked up six bluefin tuna in virtually the same spot as the day before.
