Paul Westhead has coached the Lakers, Bulls and Nuggets in the NBA, winning the 1980 NBA championship with the Lakers.
He's coached college teams, at LMU with the legendary Hank Gathers-Bo Kimble group and at La Salle and George Mason.
He's been an assistant coach in the NBA with the Lakers, Magic and SuperSonics/Thunder.
He's coached in the distinctly minor league ABA, in the Forum and Long Beach Arena, and in Japan.
He's coached the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA, winning another championship.
He also has been a college Shakespeare professor.
So what was he doing helping coach the girls team at American Martyrs School in Manhattan Beach?
"My daughter (Monica) and granddaughter (Sarah) asked me," he said.
The level does not matter. If there's a basketball and a hoop you're likely to find Westhead. He checked in once a week from his home in Palos Verdes Estates to help the young ladies during practice. He also went to some of their games
