SAN DIEGO - Rocco Mediate played himself in a recent episode of "CSI", so it wasn't a difficult role for the popular PGA Tour veteran to pull off.
Mediate has built his career on having fun, poking fun at himself, talking and laughing.
He can trace his new Screen Actors Guild card and other such perks to his remarkable performance here at Torrey Pines in 2008 when he almost outdueled Tiger Woods for the U.S. Open title.
Mediate reinvented himself in that 19-hole playoff, making it a historical round and a ratings blockbuster. Mediate fell behind early, rallied and had chances to win in regulation against a one-legged Woods.
Still, Mediate has earned the adoration of fans, prime-time status, star billing in a Skins Game and much more. He will be a star in the Farmers Insurance Open, and he has the first tee time on Thursday.
