Weekly Fishing Column: Marina tornado wreaks havoc

It was if your eyes were playing tricks on you at Peters Landing Marina in Huntington Beach on Tuesday just after 1 p.m. I mean, this is not Tornado Alley but there it was; a vertical funnel born in a thunderstorm churning up the marina and devouring everything in its path.

Wind gusts were measured in excess of 90 miles per hour as the tornado lifted two zodiac rafts about 200 feet in the air, toppled a SUV, sank boats, and hurled a catamaran on top of an adjacent boat.

Jeremy Aoun, owner of the 6-pack luxury fishing boat Liquid Coast Highway, was monitoring the weather channel from his residence just a few blocks from Peter's Landing and where the Liquid Coast Highway is docked.
