The Galaxy's main goal this year is to score more goals.
The deceptively simple message was the focal point of General Manager and coach Bruce Arena's inaugural team talk of the year as the Galaxy gathered in Carson Monday for the first day of preseason training.
Last year, after the team conceded a league-worst 62 goals the season before, the emphasis was on building from the back.
With U.S. World Cup veteran Gregg Berhalter and eventual MLS Rookie of the Year Omar Gonzalez shoring up the middle and the likes of Todd Dunivant and rookie A.J. DeLaGarza ably taking care of full back duties, the Galaxy became one of MLS' stingiest defenses and cut in half the number of goals allowed.
That solid back four went a long way toward the Galaxy securing a 12-6-12 record and an unexpected MLS Cup spot and a good thing, too, because the forward line was abysmal, 12-goal Landon Donovan aside
