Torrance carnival to raise funds to memorialize soldiers

South High School in Torrance is hosting a fundraiser Saturday for a digital memorial marquee in remembrance of three former South High students and fallen soldiers - Micah Gifford, Matt Ferrara and Joe Anzack Jr.

The school is hoping to raise $23,000 to add to the $27,000 already raised for the marquee at the carnival/auction/dance showcase.

Highlights include carnival games, live entertainment and food. The silent auction will be from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the South High School Library. The carnival will be on the mall area of the campus.

After the day's events, families are invited to stay for a dance showcase in the South High gym, featuring dance teams and a hip-hop crew from the school, special performances by Culture Shock LA and Future Shock, guest emcees Jenny Kita of the Harajuku Girls and Mike Song, and a special guest appearance by Phi of the Jabbawockeez.
