Two Centinela Valley incumbents out despite endorsements, contributions

A powerful endorsement and plentiful campaign contributions were not enough for a slate of three candidates to win seats on the Centinela Valley Union High School District Board of Education this week.

In a district where incumbents historically have had a tough time getting re-elected, voters Tuesday also ousted all but one incumbent in the seat-specific race.

Board member Rocio Pizano held onto her seat in Area Five with 42.1 percent of the vote. Challenging her for the seat, which includes Lennox, was Jessica Felix and Susie Diaz, who received 33.7 and 24.2 percent of the vote, respectively.

In Area One, the Lawndale portion of the district, incumbent Frank Talavera lost his seat in a tight race to 23-year-old Maritza Molina, who came away with 50.6 percent of the vote. The recent University of California, Santa Barbara, graduate won by just 66 votes.
