Hawthorne voters spoke loudly and clearly against the city's current leadership in Tuesday's election.
Though Mayor Larry Guidi was re-elected, his tight hold on the City Council was dashed as his slate was rejected. His victory was also bittersweet because he beat Councilman Danny Juarez by just 110 votes.
When the newly elected officials take their seats next month, Guidi will be in the minority for the first time since 2000.
The new council majority has expressed disdain for Guidi's policies and vowed to enact stricter ethics rules and other changes.
Alex Vargas and Angie English handily took the two open City Council seats left by retiring council members Gary Parsons and Pablo Catano. Both candidates were endorsed by Juarez, as was Norb Huber, who won the city clerk position against Pat Carey.
