The six candidates for the board of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District all say they are not part of a slate, but the race for three seats has come down to two distinct sides facing off.
On Tuesday, voters will choose three board members from a field of two incumbents and four challengers.
The incumbents - Barbara Lucky and Malcolm Sharp - have backed newcomer Karen Hunter Bird, an attorney and former president of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Council of PTAs.
In turn, three challengers have appeared on slate mailers together and have been jointly endorsed by the Palos Verdes Faculty Association. They are: Anthony Collatos, a Pepperdine University education professor; Heather Haddon Matson, a former Los Angeles Unified teacher and administrator; and Gregory Royston, a business attorney. All three have children in local elementary schools
