Hawthorne candidates see things differently - Mayor Larry Guidi says city's on track. Councilman Danny Juarez wants changes.

Longtime Hawthorne Mayor Larry Guidi faces Councilman Danny Juarez - his first challenger in six years - in the Nov. 3 election, and the two candidates are as different as can be.

Guidi says the city is moving in the right direction and attracting businesses, while Juarez insists the city needs to make some major changes.

"I would put people before developers," Juarez said. "We have a mayor with a very cozy relationship with developers, and any action taken is to benefit them."

Juarez points to tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions Guidi receives each election season from developers.

But Guidi said Juarez is only lobbing that criticism as a political tactic.

"I would love to challenge candidates about their closet ethics and integrity because one day it might come and bite them," Guidi said.
