K-6 plan gets mixed reviews
This is in response to Thursday's article "10 schools may get K-6 option."
For years I've expressed my desire to have elementary school go back to the K-6 system as most sixth-graders are not ready for middle school. But this article describes a poorly conceived plan (or lack of plan) that allows the option of choosing whether your child stays at elementary or goes to middle school for sixth grade. How can the local schools at both levels possibly plan effectively when the variables on student choices add such a monkey wrench that basically makes it impossible to administrate? A two- to three-year strategic plan must be developed for this change to work and it must be across the board, not just at selected schools. Local teachers have advised me that they were just told this week of this plan and must immediately vote on this without really having been informed of all the implications.
