Talking up enforcement

We didn't need more convincing that the ban on the use of handheld devices to talk or text while driving was needed. But when Torrance police issued 41 tickets in 70 minutes during a Wednesday morning enforcement operation, we got it anyway.

That came just days after a report was released about the effectiveness of California's new cell phone laws, which apparently haven't reduced accident claims within the state. In response to that story, we ran an editorial on the need not only for the laws but also for awareness campaigns about the dangers those laws seek to eliminate.
