A chance to be heard

Some have called the vote on competing plans for reforms at LAUSD schools a joke. Others suggest fiasco, or farce.

They're all accurate. At some of the 36 schools open to takeover by outside operators, some teachers managed to vote twice - as both educators and community members - while turnout was low among other community members and parents, and a mailman was dragged in off the street to cast a ballot before continuing his route. There were virtually no residential restrictions or requirements and the entire process has been fraught with charges of electioneering by competing bidders, who have reportedly stretched and completely disregarded truths to win votes.
