Torrance. The Torrance Police Department's Return Home Registry is designed to help officers locate and reunite people who are lost with their loved ones or caregivers.
The program is geared toward people of all ages who suffer from conditions - such as Alzheimer's disease, autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and children with special needs - that would make it more difficult for them to find their way home. The program is not for people who voluntarily run away from home or who have behavioral issues not related to a special need, the Torrance Police Department Web site says.
The program does not guarantee the safe return of loved ones, the Web site says, but it will provide officers with an additional tool to locate and return them.
Information such as a physical description and photographs are put into the program's database that officers can retrieve when a person is reported missing or when an officer comes into contact with a person who appears to be lost or confused
