Katherine Ladowicz of Rancho Palos Verdes recently went to Russia as part of the Camp Adventure program at the University of Northern Iowa.
Ladowicz was among 27 students at the University of California, Davis, who were selected to provide summer recreation programs for dependent youth at U.S. military installations, U.S. embassies, corporate clubs, international schools and in special programs.
Students served four branches of the U.S. military this summer -- Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines -- in 16 countries and 10 U.S. states.
Students spend a half-semester in a training program, for which they earn academic credit.
