Environmental study OK'd for port oil terminal project - Contracts are also approved for marina, green buffer for Wilmington.

After more than two hours of discussion and public comment, Los Angeles harbor commissioners Thursday night approved an environmental study for the $500 million Plains All American Pipeline project.

Plans call for building a 5-acre marine oil terminal with a new wharf at Berth 408, along with a pair of 250,000-barrel storage tanks. A pipeline extending to Terminal Island will connect to 14 additional 250,000-barrel storage tanks on a 47.7-acre tank farm.

The facility's total storage capacity will be 4 million barrels of oil, representing about one-third of Southern California's existing demand for crude oil.

The Board of Harbor Commissioners also awarded a pair of construction contracts for port projects.

A $130 million contract was awarded to the joint venture of Griffith Co. and the Dutra Group to build the Cabrillo Way Marina. Plans call for floating docks with 700 boat slips, 400 land-side boat storage spaces, restrooms, showers, parking lots and a launching facility   Read Full Article...
