GM authorizes Martin Cadillac to serve Saturn autos

South Bay Saturn owners now have somewhere local to get warranty service performed on their vehicles, after the area's only other Saturn warranty repair site closed last year.

Martin Chevrolet, a Torrance new-car dealership, was authorized by General Motors Co. to perform warranty service on all Saturns. GM owned the Saturn brand, as it continues to own the Chevrolet brand.

Service began last week, owner Martin Chevrolet owner Joe Giacomin said.

"We are the factory authorized warranty and service-parts-repair facility," Giacomin said. "So if there's Saturn owners out there, now that Saturn of Torrance has closed they can come here."

General Motors discontinued its Saturn brand last year amid a massive slump in vehicle sales caused by the recession and credit crunch.
