With the Toyota brand under fire because of recalls, it may actually be a good time to shop for vehicles made by the world's No. 1 automaker.
"Absolutely, we are going to be offering bargains," said Bill Coyne, general manager at South Bay Toyota in Gardena. "We've got some negative publicity surrounding us and (Toyota corporate's) fear is it will affect us and it probably will to some degree."
As a result, Coyne said, Toyota Financial Services has "loosened its lending policies" and dealerships will offer even bigger discounts and make more generous appraisals of trade-in brought in by consumers," Coyne said.
Toyota is recalling 9 million vehicles to deal with problems that led to sudden-acceleration. Eight models were temporarily pulled off showroom floors and their production halted for a week so the company could implement a fix.
