1 Reduce: With the weather cooling off, plants don't need as much moisture. Reduce automatic sprinkler settings for watering fruit trees, roses, landscape beds and even lawns. Too much moisture during cool weather can damage roots and even kill plants. By early next month, automatic sprinklers can safely be turned off practically until spring.
2 Refrigerate: Bulbs are now available in plentiful supply in most garden centers and nurseries. Remember to refrigerate tulips and hyacinths especially. They need the cold to stimulate flowering. Keep them refrigerated for about six weeks, away from ripening fruits. Plant most bulbs about twice as deep as the height of the bulb.
3 Start : Buy new amaryllis bulbs, or dig some existing bulbs from your garden and place them directly into containers, without chilling. Keep the top half of the bulbs above the potting soil
