That infamous letter from "Ellie Light of Long Beach" brought a clatter of opinion to the normally sedate daily

breeze.com/bogert district of the Web site.

And all, oh the irony, was from outraged readers who - like or maybe unlike Light - refuse to use their own names. Which isn't a criticism. In fact, if I started checking to see if "Grandma from Rancho Palos Verdes" is actually a grandma and actually from RPV, there would be no Monday opinion column, not in its present easy-to-use, blame-free form.

For over 20 years this has been the only place in the paper where anybody can say pretty much anything they want using their real name or not.
