Alleged embezzlement a blow to Little League's big heart

You know what's hard?

Little League is hard. So is American Youth Soccer and YMCA basketball, and lacrosse teams, ice hockey teams, water polo teams and any other team or endeavor that involves parents.

Which is the same as saying that being a parent is hard, the hardest job you'll ever love. In fact, being a parent is a lot like being a Marine, only with twice as much running, half as much sleep and no pay or benefits.

You work and work to raise children. Then you wake up one day - to quote Woody Allen - and your kids accuse you of having Alzheimer's. Or, as one of my Cal State Dominguez Hills students called it, "Old-timers disease."

Not that I'm joking about either the disease or the brought-upon-ourselves affliction that is parenthood. Face it, child-rearing is hard, dirty, unpleasant work. It will destroy your health, sanity and finances, but only if done correctly.
