A. Auto Show showcases new green products

It's getting easier than ever to be a green driver.

Just stroll the concourse at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where the diesel-powered Volkswagen Jetta TDI was chosen Thursday over four other finalists as Green Car of the Year.

It's clear that designers have come a long way since 1996, when General Motors introduced its EV-1 electric car as a lease-only option for motorists in California and Arizona.

And in his keynote speech Wednesday, Carlos Ghosn, president and chief executive officer of Nissan Motor Car Co. Ltd and Renault S.A., stressed the importance of developing more environmentally friendly technologies to offset the impacts of growth.

Ghosn noted that the world's population is estimated at 6.7 billion, with 600 million vehicles traveling its roads. By 2050, that number may soar to 2.5 billion vehicles as the rest of the world catches up to America's level of consumption   Read Full Article...
